Home with Lively

We made it home with Lively last Sunday after three sleepless days + nights in the hospital. We were so ready to bring her home and start our new life as a family, but it was surreal finally walking out of the hospital with her. Pregnancy felt like it was lasting forever, especially the last couple of weeks, which is probably how everyone feels. Once she arrived though, it seemed like I had found out I was pregnant, snapped my fingers, and all of a sudden she was here. It has been a weird adjustment getting used to not being pregnant anymore, at first it felt like there was a void and a part of me missing, especially if I wasn't touching or looking at Lively. It is amazing and intense what having a baby does to you mentally, spiritually, and physically!

Right now Lively is very attached to me, just like I am to her, and if she is not nursing she wants to be curled up against my tummy. If she isn't doing one or the other of those things she is aaangry. I think if it were up to her I would still be pregnant with her! It has made it a challenge to try to do anything other than hold her, but it is forcing me to slow down and just enjoy this time, which is what I want to do anyways. I just have to get over the fact that I will be a little behind in my classes, but I am figuring out some mommy tricks to be able to feed/hold her while doing some work.

By day six, we had to get out of the house, so we made a trip to Hobby Lobby. This was her first outing (besides the Starbucks drive through a few times earlier in the week) and we bought supplies for her newborn photos (which I will post soon!). She did so great, and slept the entire time until we were about a mile from home when she woke up hangry. I think we got really lucky because we were gone for a few hours!

A lot of people have asked how the dogs are doing since we've brought her home, and they are doing so well with her! Since my mom was in town visiting while Lively was born, we had her bring one of the receiving blankets home from the hospital the day before we came home to let the dogs start to get used to the smell of the baby. Luckily we already knew they would be great with her because all of our friends have babies, and they have adjusted really well. Sherman, our male dog, is a cranky old man and lets out a big sigh while throwing his head down on his bed when Lively wakes us all up in the middle of the night, but that has been the worst of it. Sheba was very submissive to us when we first got home with Lively, as if she were telling us she knew she needed to be good and gentle around the baby.

Paul is the best husband, and an even better daddy. He has always taken really good care of me, and through pregnancy, childbirth, and this first week of parenthood + healing from the birth he has been amazing as always. I cannot imagine going through all of this without each other's support. It has been just the most life altering week, more than we ever expected, and we love our sweet little baby and each other more than anything.

I cannot wait to share our Hypnobabies birth story and Lively's newborn photos in the next week or two!

Gender Reveal, Ultrasound + Pinterest Inspiration

Yesterday was the day of our 20 week ultrasound, where we finally got to see our baby again and find out the gender! It was better than Christmas and impossible to fall asleep the night before. The ultrasound seemed to last so long and we had to wait until the end to see if we were having a boy or a girl. The ultrasound tech finally starting looking for gender and after a a little bit of looking she finally says "looks like it is a....(long pause, more looking around)... girl!" Even though I would have probably had the same feeling either way just knowing that much more about our sweet little baby made it feel more real. Paul is so excited and I already know this little girl is going to have him wrapped around his finger.

October 11 | Family Session

Last night's session with this sweet family. We had moved their session date to October from this summer because we're supposed to have cooler temperatures now and we still melted in the heat. That could have been from chasing a two year old and four year old around also :)

Fall mornings, lazy weeks, and crazy weeks.

This week has been such a welcomed break, I still had classes but had a free day off on Wednesday and a short day on Thursday. I actually feel caught up which is amazing, it's been a lot of work to keep up with my five classes this semester on top of pregnancy and my business! I'm so glad I am allowed that one cup of coffee a day.

We did some deep cleaning this week, broke out the fall candles, and started our annual Fall Harry Potter movie marathon. It has been awesome.

I don't even know who that dog is... he just appears in all of our photos...

I'm in my 19th week of pregnancy, feeling great besides getting headaches, but other than that it's been pretty easy. Here's an update on my bump. Now look at Sherman, just look at him. Does he look demonic or does he look like the shutter from the camera is about to take his soul? I could not stop laughing when I saw this.

It's kind of funny that I had some down time this week because a lot fell into my lap and onto my calendar for next week. Classes like usual, our 20 week Anatomy Scan Ultrasound (and see if we're having a little boy or a little girl?!), my first posed newborn session, and two interviews for jobs (in Photography) that came knocking on my door! I wasn't looking to take on anything extra but these both sound like really great opportunities that would probably work with my schedule. I am too excited about everything happening next week to be stressed just yet, I'm sure during the week it will all catch up to me.

We've had storms and rain this week and being west-coasters we've been loving it and have been outside even more than usual. Stay posted, I'll be posting early in the coming week with our Anatomy Scan results! Any guesses? Leave me a comment below!

Family Session | Ali + Jesus

Summer is winding down in Texas, or at least I'm trying to will it to. I am so happy to say that during this most recent session it was only in the high 90’s around sunset and nobody was uncomfortable or too hot until maybe the end of the half hour mini sunset session.

These two are sweet and easy-going, and have some very well behaved pups!

This was yet another session where I accidentally stumbled upon an awesome spot during the shoot.

We changed our plan once we found this spot and ended up staying there for sunset.

We stayed there for the last half of the session and got the best of the session in those last 15 minutes. My curiosity and "let's just go a little bit further down this way" is usually how I find my best locations.

Lifestyle Newborn | Aly, Max + Aaron

On an overcast morning about a week after Aaron was born I went over to their home for the session.

I love how cozy and laid back these photos are. It tells the story perfectly of their first week as a little family of three. It was so great. Just observing them and taking photos while they showered him in kisses and cuddles.

Those sweet little toes.
